DWG TrueView is a desktop utility that will let you to view .dwg files on your computer. By including the DWG TrueConvert application, this tool will allow you to convert newer versions of .dwg files in order to work on older AutoCAD editions.
The DWG term describes two different, but at the same time related, things. One of the terms meanings refers to a file format known as .dwg. The other one refers the technology environment (DWG) used in almost all Autodesk CAD software products.
AutoCAD is a software utility which uses .dwg data files, this being the native file format for this application. The .dwg file format contains important project information such as geometric data, maps, photos, and designs. The .dwg file format can be found in almost every design environment, being one of the most commonly used design data formats. The .dwg file format was created in 1982, when the first edition of AutoCAD was launched. Since then, the .dwg file format is a true symbol of compatibility with AutoCAD technology.
DWG TrueView requires MS DirectX and the .NET 4.5 Framework installed in your system. It supports Microsoft Windows 7, 8 and 8.1.
Autodesk Viewer is a free online viewer for 2D and 3D designs including AutoCAD DWG, DXF, Revit RVT and Inventor IPT, as well as STEP, SolidWorks, CATIA and others.

Autodesk DWG TrueView is a free stand-alone DWG/DXF viewer that enables you to view, plot and convert DWG and DXF files. You can use freeware DWG TrueView to open AutoCAD files, without need to install AutoCAD software. The interface is similar to that in AutoCAD but with much less options. DWG TrueView includes DWG TrueConvert software which enables you to convert DWG files to different versions forward and backward, starting from AutoCAD Release 14.
Import formats: .DWG (AutoCAD Drawing), .DXF (Drawing eXchange Format).
Export formats: .DWF (Design Web Format), .DWFx (Design Web Format XPS), .PDF (Portable Document Format).
